2025 Syllabus - Classical Voice

General
a) One of the selections must have been performed at the Local Festival, received a minimum mark of 85 and the recommendation of the local Adjudicator.
b) The Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM)or Conservatory Canada (CC) syllabi may be used as guidelines for repertoire selection but competitors are not limited to these lists. Repertoire is the competitor's choice but must be classical (eg. traditional folk song, art song etc.)
c) Competitors are allowed to transpose their selections to suit their voice range.
d) One original score for each selection or purchased digital music with attached receipt showing title and price (not a cover page, pro credit or subscription to a sharing website) for each selection must be presented to the Registration desk for the Adjudicator's use on the day of competition.
e) If choosing repertoire from a syllabus list, selections can be at the same grade level or at different grade levels.
f) Memorization is required.
g) Selections from the RCM Popular Selection List and the CC Idioms lists are not permitted, including musical theatre, and popular (contemporary) pieces - this includes pieces from RCM List C for Levels 1-7 and RCM List D for Levels 7-10.
h) Competitors may use one song from a song cycle as one selection, but may not use another song from the same cycle as an additional selection.
i) Operetta, operatic or oratorio selections suitable to the competitor's voice are permitted for Senior and Advanced levels only.
j) Selections must be musically contrasting. The Adjudicator will take the choice of repertoire into consideration.Competitors will be judged on their choice of selections, interpretation, contrasting tempi, style, diction, language, vocal quality and age appropriateness.
k) Accompaniment must be by live acoustic piano only. Unless a piece is specifically written to be unaccompanied it must have accompaniment or the submission will be for adjudication only.
l) If you require a collaborative pianist (accompanist), the pianists on this list (click here: omfa.ca/collaborative-pianists-accompanists) have indicated that they are willing to play for the live festival. It is the competitor's responsibility to contact the collaborative pianist directly and negotiate a fee for their service.
m) All competitors must be an amateur which shall be defined as any person whose principle means of livelihood is not obtained from the performance or teaching of music in the particular category in which they are competing, even though, from time to time, they may receive remuneration on an occasional basis (not full-time). n) No announcement of name or selection is required prior to your performance.
o) All criteria listed in the OMFA General Rules (omfa.ca/live-festival/rules-and-regulations) must be strictly adhered to.

Classical Voice - Duets and Trios

PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

Competitors are required to sing one selection only.

Competitors must enter the class corresponding to the age of the oldest member of the duet/trio.

The maximum performance time for each level are listed below:

Beginner Levels (Ages 6-8): Five (5) minutes

Primary Levels (Ages 9-10): Five (5) minutes

Elementary Levels (Ages 11-12): Five (5) minutes

Junior Levels (Ages 13-14): Eight (8) minutes

Intermediate Levels (Ages 15-16): Ten (10) minutes

Senior Levels (Ages 17-18): Ten (10) minutes

Advanced Levels Ages 19-28):Ten (10) minutes

Amateur Adults (Ages 29 and Above): Eight (8) minutes

Adult & Child: Ten (10) minutes

There is no minimum performance time.

Accurate performance times must be included on the entry form. Do not guess timings.

If you do not provide all information required (your YouTube video link, the PDF of your music and payment) by your Festival's Provincial deadline, it will result in disqualification.

"To Be Decided" in any field will not be accepted and will result in disqualification.
